| It's sad to admit but the summer boating season is winding down and it is time to look ahead to winter storage season. As you start planning your boat storage, I want to make you aware of the possible effects ETHANOL can have on your boat's fuel system.
This is the first winter storage season that most of us have had to worry about ethanol related problems. Ethanol in your boats fuel system can deteriorate any non-ethanol fuel lines and plastic fittings or filters. It can also crystalize in the fuel tank. The worst problem we have seen with ethanol is phase separation. This happens after the gas and ethanol mixture separates and causes the fuel to become unusable. When this happens, your fuel system has to be completely drained, including the tank, fuel lines, carburetors, and/ or fuel injectors and fuel pumps. The bad news is this can be an expensive repair and you probably will not know it has happened until spring when you get your boat out for the first time. The good news is this is preventable. There are many new products that are available to treat your fuel system and prevent the negative affects of ethanol. Not every fuel treatment will prevent phase separation so pay attention to the label and make sure it specifically treats fuel with ethanol and prevents phase separation. Stop by or call to get more information on ethanol related problems and the products that you need to prevent these problems.
